Update from US conference: Lumesse Live 2011

Lumesse EventWe gathered with 100 customers, partners and staff in Austin, Texas for a couple days of knowledge sharing, networking and an enjoyable ride along the way. It's a great event, brilliantly and professionally organised by my US colleagues - I'm very pleased to be here.

Bucky Couch, our Regional Director for the Americas, opened Day 1 with a fun introduction, followed by a review of the Lumesse Journey by our CEO, Matthew Parker. Matthew highlighted the continuing growth of Lumesse and our vision for the future - essentially the thinking behind our new name.

Our CTO at Lumesse, Martyn Arbon, gave us a glimpse of the future - how we are building 'apps for everything' technology that will inspire people to want to use them, and underlining that user adoption is critical for the success of the implementation of a talent management strategy. Blogger Steve Boese was there and gave a great summary of these presentations on his blog.

Stacey Harris, from the analyst firm Bersin and Associates talked us through the 'Five Things You Need to Do for Successful Talent Management'.

After lunch, John Sumser of HR Examiner helped us 'Free Our Minds' (one of our Lumesse core values). He talked about 'Using Talent Management to See Your Organization's Future' - a highly insightful view on Talent Management maturity models. John then led an Executive panel on "Challenges and Opportunities In Global Talent Management" - talking about topics such as the importance of leader sponsorship, understanding and embracing local cultural differences, and pairing HR and IT during implementation.

HR and recruitment guru Peter Gold of Hire Strategies extended the theme of user adoption by finding new ways of working. He talked about the impact of gamification in HR and talent management, and how fun can change behaviour: MEE: measurement, engagement and enjoyment.

Our Global Head of Marketing at Lumesse, Michelle Martin, closed the formal program with a wrap up of our brand journey. A highlight of the day was a unique Lumesse song composed and performed by our multi-talented colleague, Andrea Oldmixon.

Later, we "enjoyed the ride" (another core value) with a relaxing riverboat cruise on Lake Austin.

The Journey Continues on Wednesday...
